Thank you all for your patience as we finished working on the nursery and uploading all the pictures. Here's some good before and after shots of what's been happening at our house:
BEFORE:

Kevin, busy working on putting the crib together, while Gadget wonders what all the commotion is about. Notice the purple walls. We had to pick out some new colors for our little guy, and chose some based on the fabric that we were using for the bedding.
AFTER:

It's hard to tell, but there is a cheery green line where the yellow meets the blue.

The valences were made from some fabric that a friend was getting rid of. She is in the process of moving and apparently bright green curtains don't sell homes. However, they turned into perfect valences for Nicholas's nursery! Thanks for sharing your fabric, Kellye (although we wish you weren't moving!).

Here is the crib with all the homemade bedding. The sheet, skirt, and outside of the bumper pads were all found separately, but coordinate well with the quilt set that we really liked. Thanks to Kevin, my trusty fabric shopper, for helping me pick out the right colors! We just happened to find that rug at Target. Apparently green and blue are in this year.

The blue basket next to the chair came from Target as well. Isn't it nice when things seem to fall into place?!?

Up close version of the bumpers. The part that was giving me such headaches was the velcro tabs that don't appear in this shot. They turned out well as long as Nicholas doesn't pull too hard :) Thankfully I had the help of Kevin's mom on all the handsewing at the bottom of each pad. I would probably still be working on them if she didn't come help! Thanks so much, Cindy!

This is the fabric collection, called Little Blessings, that inspired it all. Around each of the large critters is a blessing, such as "May you always know you are loved." I varied the pattern some because there were an awful lot of flowers and pinks in the original version. Thanks again to Cindy for helping to hand sew the binding on. Can you tell hand sewing is not my cup of tea???
ON A RELATED NOTE:

Not only did Kevin help pick out the colors in the nursery, and keep me going when I was frustrated with the velcro tabs, but he also did a bit of handy-work himself while we prepared our home for Nicholas. After months of debating about what to do around the one traditional tub we have in the house, we finally agreed to take the sliding doors off and create a little "settee" to cover the bottom rail. Kevin added foam cushion and a vinyl top, so it is quite deluxe. It's so nice and comfy, I think we may even fight over who gets to give baths! :)
Soo sweet Abbie and Kevin! You look like you're all set : ) I love the wavey colors on the wall - and you did such a good job on the quilt. woohooo - almost time!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and so filled with love! God's blessings! Still praying for the TC to come soon! Enjoy the nursery!
