It Takes a Village

The old adage is that it takes a village to raise a child, but we are becoming more and more aware that it takes a village to adopt a child! Even though we are still at the beginning of the process, we are so very thankful all the help and good wishes we have had along the way. From our dear friends who wrote references (thank you Josh, Gail, Craig, Elizabeth, and Doug!) to the application coordinator at CHSFS who is so willing to answer all of our questions. From Martha and Linda who processed some of our state background checks to all those other anonymous hands who have touched and will touch all of our paperwork. From our immediate family who is excited to welcome a child into the family to our friends who have been so supportive. We thank you all for being a part of our village and we will be forever grateful!

The Journey Begins!

About a month ago, on December 5, 2008, we sent in our registration to Children's Home Society and Family Services and began the adoption application process. Hooray -we are on our way to becoming parents!!! Or, in other words... Let the paperwork begin!

On December 13th, we received the full application packet to fill out which we mailed in on December 16th. They sent back a few more forms to complete along with fingerprint cards to fill out. After a busy holiday season, we finally got our fingerprints done and in the mail on January 2nd.

We were having trouble finding a police station open to do the fingerprinting during hours that Kevin wasn't working. Our friend who works at the Iowa DCI was gracious enough to connect us with a coworker who works in fingerprinting and was able to get our cards filled out. Denny was very generous with his time and made the process relaxed and fun instead of stressful and impersonal at the police station. And, he even let us take pictures of him in action. Thus, our scrapbook via the blog has begun!
