And Baby Makes Three

We're sorry we have been keeping you waiting with a blog update. We have been working through our transition, slowly but surely, and beginning to take joy in the little things:
  • When he reached out to us for comfort even though we were not the person he really wanted.
  • When he stopped crying for more than 30 seconds.
  • When he calmed enough to play with a toy.
  • When he calmed enough to play with a toy for more than 30 seconds!
  • When he smiled for the first time since leaving his foster mother. (About 6 hours after leaving the agency, Kevin had him in the bathroom and he happened to see himself in the mirror. Despite a pacifier in the mouth, he had a huge grin... that baby on the other side is pretty fun to play with! Sorry, those pictures are on the video camera.)
  • When he ate a bottle without stopping every 3 sucks to cry.
  • When he fussed, wiggled away from us, then fell face first into the duvet into a deep sleep!
It's been an emotion-filled day but one we wouldn't trade for anything. The excitement of seeing him again at the agency, the difficulty of saying goodbye to his foster mother and trying to express how incredibly thankful we are for her and her family across the language barrier, watching him grieve over the loss of almost everything he knows and loves. It's been an amazing experience but let's just say we all plan on sleeping very soundly tonight!

We only caught a couple of shots on the regular camera so those will have to do for today. We'll be sure to do better tomorrow. :) For those who are interested, he weighed 20 1/2 pounds today at his final checkup. Given how fussy he was, we didn't get a chance to try on any of our clothes so we're all waiting to see if he fits into anything we brought along! Luckily between the foster mother and the agency, we have plenty of formula, outfits, snacks, and diapers to make it home.

A smile of relief after an hour and a half of crying! Thanks for recommending the carrier, Jill. It was a life saver!

And with that, he's out like a light. As sweet as you could imagine!

Since Nicholas claimed the bed, I guess Abbie and I will flip over who gets the couch and who gets the floor!
